Russian senator warns Kiev of ‘catastrophe’ from planned Western visit

Ukraine has been steadily self-destructing from within, and Ukrainian nationalists have been the driving force behind this process, deputy speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev also noted

MOSCOW, June 15. /TASS/. Ukraine’s Western neighbors have been the sponsors of its self-destruction, and their potential visit could take the country closer to a national disaster, a Russian senator said on Wednesday.

La Stampa reported earlier that Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron could pay a joint visit to Kiev on June 16. Prior to that, the German newspaper Bild am Sontag said the visit was possible, without disclosing the date.

"Ukraine has been steadily self-destructing from within, and Ukrainian nationalists have been the driving force behind this process. It’s sole sponsors are Ukraine’s neighbors, who for the sake of geopolitics have been pretending that the destruction of Ukraine has external causes. And if the European troika’s upcoming Kiev tour follows a prearranged scenario, it would push Ukraine closer to a national catastrophe and wouldn’t help it become a truly European country," Konstantin Kosachev, deputy speaker of the Federation Council (the upper chamber of Russia’s parliament), wrote on his Telegram channel.

The stated goals of the visit - providing additional military and economic assistance to Ukraine, the export of Ukrainian grain and other goods needed by Europe to the West, and Ukraine’s potential accession to the EU - matter to France, Germany, Italy, the EU and NATO, the senator said. As for Ukraine, the goals "are super important to the current Kiev regime only," he added.

Kosachev said there was no sign whatsoever that Europe’s leaders who are planning to visit Ukraine "are seeking to help restore a life of peace to the country or revive a civilized inter-societal dialogue," though this has always been a priority for Europe.
