INTERVIEW: Floods reported in 64 Russian regions this year — emergencies minister

This year, major floods were reported in the regions of Orenburg, Kurgan, Tyumen and Omsk, and in Siberia’s Yakutia region

MOSCOW, December 26. /TASS/. A total of 64 Russian regions were affected by floods this year, with water rising to unprecedented levels in some of them, the Russian emergencies minister, Alexander Kurenkov, has told TASS in an interview.

"This year, 64 Russian constituent entities were affected by floods, compared to 60 last year," he said.

"In some regions, waters rose to unprecedentedly high levels, the highest in 20 years," Kurenkov continued. "In all, over 49,000 houses, over 98,000 household plots, more than 34,000 housing and utilities infrastructure sites and over 1,000 transport infrastructure facilities were inundated."

This year, major floods were reported in the regions of Orenburg, Kurgan, Tyumen and Omsk, and in Siberia’s Yakutia region.
