MOSCOW, March 28. /TASS/. The Telegram messenger was fined 7.8 mln rubles ($87,000) for failure to observe the self-control law, the Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media told TASS.
The law on self-control of social networks is effective in Russia since February 2021. Platforms are obliged under this law to independently detect and block the illegal contents. Amendments to the Russian Code of Administrative offenses approved in 2023 stipulate fines for failures to abide by the said law.
The court fined Telegram five times in the amount of 7.8 mln rubles for the breach of requirements of this law, the authority said.
