TV series from eastern countries to replace Western blockbusters in Russia — producer

Streaming platforms did cooperate with eastern counterparts earlier but will now bump up that engagement, the producer said

MOSCOW, June 21. /TASS/. Russian streaming services will buy more content from eastern purveyors of content as US and European studios are pulling out of the country, Dzhanik Faiziyev, general producer of the streaming platfrom Okko, told TASS.

"This is bound to happen because we have a certain budget to buy content," he said. "As we can’t spend it on European or American movies, we will therefore spend more in the east and Turkey."

Streaming platforms did cooperate with eastern counterparts earlier but will now bump up that engagement, the producer said.

"To be fair, we did buy a certain amount of Turkish, Indian and Korean films before. It’s clear now that the amount will be on the rise," he said.

The Walt Disney Company earlier suspended its operations in Russia amid the events in Ukraine, including film releases, content production and licensing. The same goes for Sony Pictures.
