Vostochny cosmordrome to become base spaceport for deploying Russian orbital station

We have to develop a comprehensive project, which, in addition to the station itself, includes a new transportation system, Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov told

VOSTOCHNY COSMODROME, October 22. /TASS/. Vostochny cosmordrome will be the base spaceport for Russia’s deployment of the future Orbital Station, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov told reporters.

"Vostochny cosmodrome will be the base cosmodrome for deploying the Russian orbital station," he said.

"We have to develop a comprehensive project, which, in addition to the station itself, includes a new transportation system, ground infrastructure facilities, a control center for searching and rescuing cosmonauts, and many other facilities that need to be created to ensure crew launches from Russia’s territory," he stressed.

In April 2021, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov said that the condition of the ISS leaves much to be desired, so Russia would focus on creating its own orbital station. Energia Rocket and Space Corporation was tasked with building the first module for the new orbital station - a research and energy module - by the end of 2025.
