Russia considers it possible to extend ISS use until 2028

Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov added that there are no insurmountable issues that would prevent the operation of the ISS after 2024

VOSTOCHNY COSMODROME, October 22. /TASS/. Russia considers it possible to extend the operation of the Russian segment of the ISS until 2028 before the national station is deployed in the minimum configuration, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov told reporters.

"We consider it possible to extend the operation of the ISS for the period of deployment of the Russian orbital station in the minimum configuration, that is, until 2028," Manturov said.

He added that there are no insurmountable issues that would prevent the operation of the ISS after 2024. According to Manturov, Energia Rocket and Space Corporation (part of Roscosmos) has worked to confirm the technical feasibility of extending the service life of modules and equipment of the Russian segment of the ISS. The company also developed an action plan for its further operation.

"As a result, it was revealed that there are no insurmountable technical problems preventing extending the operation of the Russian segment of the ISS after 2024," Manturov emphasized.
