MOSCOW, March 21. /TASS/. Incumbent Russian leader Vladimir Putin has been re-elected president for his fifth term as the country’s Central Election Commission (CEC) approved the final voting results.
"All members of the Central Election Commission unanimously certify that Vladimir Putin has been elected President of the Russian Federation," CEC Chairwoman Ella Pamfilova announced.
Russia’s chief electoral body discussed the outcome of the presidential election campaign at a meeting on Thursday.
The Russian presidential election was held on March 15-17. According to the official outcome from the CEC, Putin garnered 87.28% of the vote. A total voter turnout of 77.49% for the election was reported, or the highest in the country’s modern history.
