Russia intends to deepen cooperation with Zimbabwe — Putin

It is noted that Russian-Guinean ties are also traditionally friendly

MOSCOW, April 5. /TASS/. Russia intends to deepen trade-investment cooperation with the republic of Zimbabwe as well as development of industrial cooperation and implementation of cultural and educational projects, President Vladimir Putin said at the ceremony of accepting diplomatic credentials from new foreign ambassadors at the Kremlin on Wednesday.

The President noted that the friendship between Russia and Zimbabwe has been tested by time. "Our country supports the Zimbabwean people in defending their sovereignty, especially in the light of the sanctions war unleashed against the republic, sanctions pressure," Putin said.

"It is in our mutual interests to deepen trade and investment cooperation, develop industrial cooperation, implement joint commercial projects in the field of culture and education," he said.

In his speech the President also touched upon Russia's relations with the republic of Equatorial Guinea. He recalled that 55 years ago the Soviet Union was the first country to recognize the independence and sovereignty of this state.

"Now our countries are strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation in such areas as geological exploration, joint production and processing of hydrocarbons, electric power industry, useful contacts are being maintained on issues related to the situation on world energy markets, including in the OPEC + format, as well as part of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum," Putin said.

Russian-Guinean ties are also traditionally friendly, he noted. The President stressed that Russia is a major investor in the economy of Guinea.

"Our companies have been successfully engaged in the extraction and processing of mineral resources in Guinea for a long time. We are grateful for the provision of favorable conditions for their activities," the head of state said.

According to him, Russian specialists are assisting the Guineans in the fight against the Ebola virus and many other infectious diseases, providing humanitarian aid, medical equipment and vaccines.

Guinea is now going through a difficult stage of domestic political development, Putin noted. "We wish the Guinean people a speedy stabilization of the situation in a constitutional way," he concluded.
