Russian-US prisoner swap would indicate positive signal for bilateral ties, says diplomat

According to Sergey Ryabkov, the United States has abused the methods of megaphone diplomacy on the issue

MOSCOW, November 29. /TASS/. A prisoner exchange between Russia and the United States would serve as a positive signal for bilateral ties, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told reporters on Tuesday.

"We are not currently in dialogue as agencies, so we cannot feel the dynamics in full, as I see it. And I’d like to note that if that [prisoner swap] happened it would certainly serve as a positive message that relations between Russia and the United States are not that hopeless," the diplomat said, when asked by a TASS reporter if such an exchange could take place before the end of 2022.

According to Ryabkov, the United States has abused the methods of megaphone diplomacy on the issue. "Lately, Washington, as they say, has been overusing the techniques of megaphone diplomacy, not quiet diplomacy, and it has not helped. And yet, essentially, the question is how the relevant structures on both sides tasked with this work last year can find common ground," he added.
