US has Europe in shackles — senior diplomat

The senior diplomat underscored that, with such an ideological approach, the list of Western adversaries will soon also cover developing India

BAKU, October 27. /TASS/. Washington is carrying out economic, military and ideological enslavement in Europe, which has traded its energy freedom for dependency on the US, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said during the 15th Verona Eurasian Economic Forum Thursday.

"Effectively, we are witnessing the economic, military and ideological enslavement of Europe by the EU. Meekly and voluntarily, the EU has traded its energy freedom, the basis for economic development, which has been based upon energy cooperation with Russia, unaffected by any political conjuncture, for decades - for dependency on the US," he said.

Grushko noted that the state of the multipolar world will depend on the state of relations between its main powers.

"The picture is rather gloomy here. The US and the EU view Russia as a direct threat, engaging in a hybrid war against it. NATO has gotten pulled into either a direct or proxy war. China is viewed as a strategic adversary or a competitor," he added.

The senior diplomat underscored that, with such an ideological approach, the list of Western adversaries will soon also cover developing India.

"Deterrence, which has become the main instrument of the West in the international arena, is nothing but stripping states of their right for development, stripping them of the opportunity for development and the utilization of resources for such development," he noted.
