BAKU, October 27. /TASS/. The North Atlantic alliance is gearing up for a heated confrontation with its rivals not only in Europe but also in Asia, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said at the 15th Verona Eurasian Economic Forum on Thursday.

"They frantically seek either to revive or to create new interest groups that have nothing to do with a unifying agenda. NATO has dusted off Cold War era military plans and is gearing up for a heated confrontation with an equal rival here - I’m using NATO’s language here - not only in Europe but also in Asia, at the expense of the Europeans, I should say," he noted.

According to Grushko, the United States is also establishing other organizations, including AUKUS (Australia, the UK and the US) and the Quad (Australia, India, the US and Japan), "only to weaken ASEAN-oriented inclusive approaches to security and prevent Southeast Asian nations from deciding their future." "The only reason why all this is being done is to contain China," the Russian deputy foreign minister concluded.
