Russia alarmed by West’s schemes in Transcaucasia, says diplomat

The alarming tendencies that are gaining momentum in Transcaucasia, Maria Zakharova said

MOSCOW, October 24./TASS/. Moscow is alarmed by tendencies in Transcaucasia, where the West is trying to promote insurgent campaigns developed in Ukraine, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a commentary on Monday.

"The alarming tendencies that are gaining momentum in Transcaucasia, where the West is clearly trying to implement confrontation schemes similar to those carried out in Ukraine, cannot but concern us," she wrote in comments on a media request to make an appraisal of the processes underway around Armenia and the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.

Washington and Brussels are not interested in compromises on Transcaucasia, seeking to squeeze Russia out of the region, Zakharova wrote.

"The arbitrary and high-handed approach of the West can also be traced with regard to the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. Neither regional specifics nor specific sensitivity of the problem are taken into account. The real goal of Washington and Brussels is not to work out compromise and balanced solutions, but to squeeze Russia out of Transcaucasia," Zakharova she wrote in comments on a media request to make an appraisal of the processes underway around Armenia and the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.
