Kakhovka Hydro stays operational despite Ukraine’s shelling — local official

Earlier, emergency services said the Ukrainian army had fired 19 rockets at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant

KHERSON, October 24. /TASS/. The Kakhovka Hydro, which the Ukrainian forces attacked with HIMARS and Olkha rockets on Monday morning, stays in operation and there are no breakthroughs in the dam, the head of the Novaya Kakhovka administrative district, Vladimir Leontiev, told TASS on Monday.

"The power plant stays operational. True, some roads leading to it have been damaged. But the power plant keeps working," he said, adding that the strike had caused no casualties.

Earlier, emergency services said the Ukrainian army had fired 19 rockets at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant. Some were shot down by the air defense system, but three of them hit the facility.

The Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant is part of the Dnieper hydroelectric cascade. It is located five kilometers away from the city of Novaya Kakhovka, the Kherson Region. The armed forces of Ukraine regularly open fire at several communities in the Kherson Region. Schools and social infrastructure have been destroyed and homes damaged. In Novaya Kakhovka itself, according to the authorities, about 70% of homes have been damaged due to regular shellings by the Ukrainian army.
