Ambassador blasts NATO’s dangerous maneuvers close to Russia’s Far Eastern borders

The ongoing Japanese-American military maneuvers are just part of "a big, large-scale picture" of interaction between Japan and the United States, the diplomat pointed out

MOSCOW, October 13. /TASS/. NATO’s maneuvers close to Russia’s Far Eastern borders pose a threat and require adequate security measures, Russian Ambassador to Japan Mikhail Galuzin said on Thursday.

"This maneuvering by the NATO bloc in close vicinity to our Far Eastern borders is, undoubtedly, a threat to Russia’s security in that part of the world and, correspondingly, this threat requires adequate measures on our part to ensure security and the proper combat capability of our forces in Russia’s Far Eastern regions," the envoy said during a live broadcast on the Rossiya-24 round-the-clock TV channel.

The ongoing Japanese-American military maneuvers are just part of "a big, large-scale picture" of interaction between Japan and the United States, the diplomat pointed out.

"Japan is a member of the military and political alliance with the United States of America. An impressive US military contingent is stationed there on a permanent basis," he noted.

Russia lodged a resolute protest with the Japanese Embassy in Moscow on October 12 over the tests of the US-made HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems during Japan’s joint drills with the United States close to Russia’s Far Eastern borders.
