Crimean Bridge terror attack proved no prudence to be expected from Kiev — lawmaker

According to Andrey Kartapolov, a massive strike on Ukrainian control, energy and communications objects was prepared a long time ago

MOSCOW, October 10. /TASS/. The sabotage on the Crimean Bridge proved that Russia will not see any prudence from Kiev, therefore a decision to carry out a massive strike on Ukrainian control, energy and communications objects was made, Russian State Duma Defense Committee head Andrey Kartapolov told TASS Monday.

"The Saturday morning [when the sabotage on the Crimean Bridge happened - TASS] gave us the answer that we will see no prudence from Kiev, and therefore this decision was made. And our opponents received a response," Kartapolov said.

According to the lawmaker, a massive strike on Ukrainian control, energy and communications objects was prepared a long time ago.

"Such scale of planning is impossible to carry out within such short time span, just as it is impossible to prepare the forces and the means, as well," he explained.

A truck exploded on the Crimean Bridge on Saturday morning, causing several fuel tanks of a train to catch fire. Three people were killed in the blast. Two spans of the bridge’s roadway to the peninsula collapsed but a lane leading from Crimea to the Krasnodar Region reportedly remained intact.

Russian Investigative Committee head Alexander Bastrykin called it a terror attack, adding that Ukrainian intelligence agencies are responsible for the attack. The bridge traffic has been restored; a ferry crossing is operational as well.

During the Russian Security Council meeting Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that a massive strike was carried out on military control, energy and communications objects of Ukraine.
