Russia calls for extension of truce in Yemen, further talks — MFA

Russia said there is no alternative to talks for resolving Yemen’s domestic disagreements

MOSCOW, October 5. /TASS/. Russia’s Special Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov on Wednesday discussed the prospects for a Yemeni settlement with Yemen’s Foreign Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak and called for the extension of the truce in the Middle Eastern country as the two spoke by phone.

"During the conversation, a thorough exchange of views was held on the military-political and humanitarian situation in Yemen. At the same time, the importance of extending the truce between the Yemeni internationally recognized authorities and the Houthi movement Ansar Allah, which was in place from April 2 to October 2, was stressed. Special emphasis was placed on strengthening coordination between Russia and Yemen at the UN and other international platforms," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Russia said there is no alternative to talks for resolving Yemen’s domestic disagreements. "In this context, the readiness to continue to help the efforts of the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg aimed at prolonging the ceasefire and the subsequent launch of the process of a comprehensive peace settlement in the Republic of Yemen under the auspices of that global organization was confirmed," the statement said.

That talks were held at the initiative of Yemen.
