Kherson Region officially joins Russia, major work ahead — legislator

KHERSON, October 5. /TASS/. Legal procedures on the accession of the Kherson Region to Russia have been completed but a lot of work is ahead on the region’s integration, State Duma delegate, deputy head of the United Russia Party faction and leader of the party’s humanitarian mission to the Kherson Region Igor Kastyukevich told TASS on Wednesday.

"All the necessary legal procedures have been completed," he noted. "Yet major work is still ahead. I am confident that our cooperation will be productive and joint work will allow to improve the quality of life of Kherson residents," the lawmaker asserted.

He added that now the region would deal with "complex integration processes of all regional economic structures and spheres into the Russian system." "It is important for the people to feel positive changes already now," the legislator stressed.

He also congratulated Vladimir Saldo with his appointment as acting head of the Kherson Region.

On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed federal constitutional laws on the accession of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) as well as of the Zaporozhye and Kherson Regions to Russia. Additionally, he appointed Denis Pushilin as acting head of the DPR, Leonid Pasechnik - as acting head of the LPR, Yevgeny Balitsky became acting governor of the Zaporozhye Region and Vladimir Saldo was designated as acting governor of the Kherson Region.
