West supports its protege by awarding Sakharov Prize to Navalny — Russian senator

Andrei Klimov believes that in such a way, the Western states implement their information and propaganda campaign

MOSCOW, October 21. / TASS /. The West has supported its protege by awarding the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to Russian blogger Alexei Navalny, who was serving his sentence, Chairman of the Federation Council's Interim Commission for the Protection of State Sovereignty and Prevention of Interference in the Internal Affairs Andrei Klimov told TASS.

"This decision once again confirms that he is not an ordinary foreign agent, but a person on whom a serious stake has been made. And anything goes to support this ‘Navalny image’ in the media space," the Russian senator noted.

Klimov pointed out that there were quite a lot of applicants for the prize, however, "these candidates, apparently, were not such good foreign agents." "For example, I was 99.9% sure that this award would be given to him. This protege was deliberately picked for this role, promoted and financed," the senator stressed.

The Russian senator believes that in such a way, the Western states implement their information and propaganda campaign, in particular, by awarding this prize.

Navalny was awarded with the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought on Wednesday. This Prize was established by the European Parliament in 1988 in honor of Andrei Sakharov, the famous soviet dissident. It is awarded to people, who made "an exceptional contribution to the fight for human rights across the globe." The laureate receives a diploma and a check for 50,000 euros.
