Nearly entire Lower Saxony under water — state’s interior minister

According to earlier reports, around 100,000 people are involved in combating the floods in Lower Saxony in northwestern Germany

BERLIN, December 29. /TASS/. Almost all of Germany’s Lower Saxony is flooded, Lower Saxony's Interior Minister Daniela Behrens said on Friday.

"Almost all of Lowe Saxony is under water," she said in an interview with the Deutschlandfunk radio station. She warned people against stealing sandbags used to strengthen dams. "If a dam is not reinforced, there is no need in placing sandbags at you house," she said.

According to earlier reports, around 100,000 people are involved in combating the floods in Lower Saxony in northwestern Germany.

The DPA news agency said, citing local authorities, that Lower Saxony, especially its southern part, is seeing unprecedented river levels. Power supplied were suspended to the city of Celle due to safety reasons after water rose by 40-50 centimeters in several streets.
