Japan highly likely to accept new Sakhalin-1 project terms — Kyodo news agency

The Japanese Ministry of Economy assumes in the first instance that the project is critical in terms of energy security of the country and provision of stable energy supplies

TOKYO, October 14. /TASS/. Japan will agree to terms of transfer of the Sakhalin-1 project into Russian jurisdiction and will keep its participation in it with the high degree of probability, Kyodo news agency said on Friday, citing sources in the government.

The Japanese Ministry of Economy assumes in the first instance that the project is critical in terms of energy security of the country and provision of stable energy supplies, Kyodo said. The Japanese side is to take the decision within one month from the decree of the Russian government on establishment of a new project operator with registration in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

Japan’s Sodeco holds 20% in the Sakhalin-1 project.
