Russian aviation patrols Union State’s borders — Belarusian Defense Ministry

MINSK, October 20. /TASS/. The Russian aviation component of the regional military group patrols the air borders of the Union State, the Belarusian Defense Ministry’s press-service said on Thursday.

"At this very moment the Russian aviation component of the regional military group is conducting routine patrols of the Union State’s air borders," the news release says.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on October 10 announced that a regional group of forces had begun to be formed, based on the military personnel of the Belarusian army. He said the decision to create the group, reached at negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, followed an aggravation of the situation on the western borders of the Union State. On October 15, the Belarusian Defense Ministry said the first train with Russian military personnel had arrived in Belarus. According to the Belarusian military, the Russian personnel in the regional group of forces will total 9,000. About 170 tanks, 200 armored combat vehicles and up to 100 guns and mortars are to be redeployed to Belarus.
