DOHA, October 24. /TASS/. The United States is no longer a guarantor of security and peace in the Middle East, said American ambassador to Turkey and the US president’s special representative for Syria Tom Barrack.
"For 80 years, we've been the security guarantor. We, meaning the US, has been the security guarantor of the seas and the world, and it was to our benefit," he told
Mario Nawfal, a blogger working in Dubai, in an interview. "[Now] I keep on saying we're not the ultimate guarantor, but we are an insurer."
According to him, the US allies in the region should now take care of their own security. "We're all trying to just get enough arrows in the quiver that one day they'll be able to get out of that tough place by themselves. But it never goes away. Because if you go too far, they're entitled and they're spoiled, and they always want to come back to you and do that. So you never get them on their own," Barrack explained.
