China to react if US attempts to use Ukraine crisis against it, defense ministry cautions

The People's Liberation Army of China will take an objective and fair position on the Ukrainian issue, Chinese Ministry of National Defense Spokesperson Wu Qian noted

BEIJING, June 10. /TASS/. The People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) will react harshly if the United States tries to use the Ukrainian crisis to infringe on Beijing's interests, Chinese Ministry of National Defense Spokesperson Wu Qian said on Friday following a meeting of Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe and his US counterpart Lloyd Austin in Singapore.

"We will respond resolutely if someone tries to infringe on China's interests using the Ukrainian issue as a pretext to do so," Wu Qian was quoted as saying by China Central Television. The PLA "will take an objective and fair position on the Ukrainian issue," he said.

China is a leading power with a responsible policy on the international arena, the spokesperson said. "We will continue to play our constructive role," he stressed.
