West turned Ukraine into outpost of fight against Russia — Ukrainian ex-Minister

"The Baltic states and Georgia also had a certain role in this scenario," Vitaly Zakharchenko noted

UNITED NATIONS, December 27. /TASS/. Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Western states exerted a lot of effort to turn Ukraine into an outpost of fight against Russia, Former Ukrainian Interior Minister Vitaly Zakharchenko said during an Arria formula UN Security Council meeting.

"While analyzing the processes that have brought Ukraine to a bloody scenario, it is necessary to understand that in their foundation lies the policy of Western states, who exerted a lot of effort after the dissolution of the Soviet Union to turn Ukraine into an outpost of fight against Russia, effectively turned it into anti-Russia," he said.

"I am absolutely convinced that the armed coup in Ukraine that was carried out in February, 2014, was a meticulously planned operation that involved military network-centric technologies with direct management from Western states - mainly, the US, the UK, Germany and Poland. The Baltic states and Georgia also had a certain role in this scenario," the former Ukrainian minister added.

The events, dubbed the Euromaidan, started on November 21, 2013. On that day, the Ukrainian government announced the suspension of signing of the agreement on association with the EU; in response, the opposition started large-scale protests in Kiev, which escalated into riots. The political crisis has led to a coup in February, 2014.
