Air transport agency denies airports in central, southern Russia get ready for opening

Should there be any changes in the operational status of these airports, the agency will provide official and timely notifications

MOSCOW, February 24. /TASS/. Information regarding urgent preparations for the reopening of airports in central and southern Russia is inaccurate, according to the air transport agency.

"The media rumors about ‘urgent preparations for the reopening’ of temporarily closed airports in central and southern Russia, as well as the collection of flight applications, do not reflect reality and are entirely false," the federal agency stated.

Should there be any changes in the operational status of these airports, the agency will provide official and timely notifications.

Since February 24, 2022, Russia has closed parts of its airspace in the southern and central regions to civilian aircraft due to the special military operation in Ukraine. Flights to airports in Anapa, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Gelendzhik, Krasnodar, Kursk, Lipetsk, Rostov-on-Don, and Simferopol are currently restricted. Since May of last year, only Elista Airport has resumed inbound and outbound flights.
