CAIRO, October 26. /TASS/. Egypt negotiates with Iran and the United States as well as regional partners on a daily basis to avoid another escalation of tensions, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty said.
"Every day, we talk with the Iranians, the Americans and our regional partners to prevent a transition to a new bout of military escalation," Egypt’s top diplomat said at a joint news conference with US Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in the Arab republic’s new capital, as broadcast by the Al-Qahera Al-Ekhbariya television channel. "Military methods would not guarantee a long-lasting result of stability," Abdelatty emphasized as he called on both sides to return to the negotiating table.
The US and Israel launched a war against Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. However, in the early morning hours of July 8, the US resumed large-scale strikes against Iran, accusing it of violating the terms of the agreements reached on the Strait of Hormuz.
On October 24, US President Donald Trump hinted that he might decide to launch new strikes against Iran if Washington and Tehran fail to reach a deal. On the next day, however, he ruled out immediate military action against the Islamic Republic for the time being.
