Russian ombudswoman says humanitarian aid to people in Alyoshki is top priority

Yana Lantratova stressed that it is important to assess people’s needs and organize the delivery of food, medicine, hygiene supplies, and other essential items

MOSCOW, October 23. /TASS/. Russia’s priority during the operation in Alyoshki in the Kherson Region is to provide humanitarian assistance to civilians, Russian human rights ombudswoman Yana Lantratova said.

"Our top priority right now is to provide humanitarian aid to the region’s population. First and foremost, it is important to assess people’s needs and organize the delivery of food, medicine, hygiene supplies, and other essential items," she wrote on social networks.

Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a ceasefire in Alyoshki in the Kherson Region, the White House said earlier in the day. The ceasefire will come into effect on October 29, 2026. The sides agreed to cease hostilities in Alyoshki to "allow for humanitarian aid to enter and to prepare a civilian evacuation through a designated safe passageway," the White House said, adding that an independent US media organization will assist and document the actions of both Russia and Ukraine during the ceasefire.

On September 21, the Kremlin spokesman described the humanitarian situation in Alyoshki as critical. Food and medicines cannot be delivered to the city amid Ukrainian shelling and drone attacks. During a phone call with US leader Donald Trump on October 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that regarding the humanitarian situation in Alyoshki, it was agreed that Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova would remain in regular contact with Melania Trump’s staff.
