MOSCOW, December 08, 17:06 /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin will participate on Monday in a gala reception devoted to Day of Heroes of the Motherland that will be marked for the first time in the St. George Hall of Grand Kremlin Palace, the presidential press service said on Sunday.
“More than 300 people have been invited to the reception. Among them there are Heroes of the Russian Federation, Heroes of the Soviet Union, holders of the Order of St. George and the Order of Glory, as well as heads of the agencies of state power,” the press service said.
Day of Heroes of the Motherland was first marked in this country in 2007.
Russia’s historic tradition to honour the cavaliers of the Order of St. George that was instituted on this date in 1769 has predetermined the choice of December 9 as the date for the holiday. Russian president returned the order to the list of the country’s highest military awards by a decree signed on August 8, 2000.
