Russian envoy, Red Cross representative discuss Ukrainian conflict

MINSK, December 5. /TASS/. Russian Ambassador in Minsk Boris Gryzlov and Boris Michel, the head of regional delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross for Russia and Belarus, have discussed efforts to overcome the humanitarian aftermath of the Ukrainian conflict, according to the Russian embassy in Belarus.

"In the context of the current situation in the region, the meeting participants discussed pressing issues of interaction in key areas of humanitarian activity of mutual interest. Particular attention was paid to the priorities of the committee's work in Russia and Belarus, the ICRC's communication with the relevant agencies and organizations of the two countries, as well as practical efforts aimed at overcoming the humanitarian consequences of the Ukrainian crisis," the embassy said in a statement.

Gryzlov noted the ICRC's important contribution to the work of providing assistance to victims of armed conflicts and promoting respect for the norms of international humanitarian law in all regions of the world, above all in the context of the events in and around Ukraine. He informed Michel in detail of the comprehensive efforts by Russia to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure in the zone of the special military operation.

"The Russian ambassador paid special attention to the issues related to ensuring the safety and well-being of children evacuated from the territories that are subjected to attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and their subsequent reunification with their siblings. Boris Gryzlov emphasized that a working mechanism has been formed at this time, which has shown its efficiency and transparency and allows for an individual approach in each specific case," the embassy stated.

The participants of the meeting also touched upon the humanitarian aspects of the situation in the zone of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, primarily in the Gaza Strip, and agreed to continue working communication.
