MOSCOW, May 27. /TASS/. The Ukrainian leadership constantly makes contradictory statements that do not allow to fully understand what the Ukrainian side wants and whether it is ready to realize the real state of affairs, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday.
That is how Peskov answered to a request to comment on Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's statements that negotiating with Russia is necessary to end the conflict, but the Russian side allegedly does not want it.
"First, the talks are now frozen by decision and in accordance with the line chosen by the Ukrainian side, which is a far cry from the abovementioned statements of Zelensky," the Kremlin spokesman said, "Second, in general, the Ukrainian leadership constantly makes statements that contradict each other, which does not allow to fully understand what the Ukrainian side wants and whether it is ready to show a sober approach and realize the real state of affairs," Peskov pointed out.
Earlier, Russian presidential aide Vladimir Medinskiy, who heads the Russian delegation in the talks with Ukraine, said that the freezing of the negotiations had been fully initiated by Kiev.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow's plans did not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories; the goal was the demilitarization and denazification of the country.
