Russia reiterates support for Cuba in fight for lifting US trade embargo

Russia supports Cuba in its struggle to lift the over half-century-old US embargo against the Latin American country

MOSCOW, November 2. /TASS/. Russia supports Cuba in its struggle to lift the over half-century-old US embargo against the Latin American country, according to a joint statement issued after a meeting of the Russian and Cuban leaders in Moscow.

"The Russian president has confirmed the unchanged solidary of the Russian people with the people of Cuba in the fight for an immediate and unconditional termination of the almost 60-year long economic, trade and financial blockade, imposed by the United States against Cuba," the statement said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of Cuba’s Council of State and Council of Ministers Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez signed the joint statement on common approaches in international affairs following their talks in Moscow.

The statement also reads that Russia and Cuba "hailed the 73rd UN General Assembly’s adoption of the resolution titled ‘Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba,’ which has once again confirmed almost unanimous reprobation of the international society of this discriminatory policy of Washington."
