BEIJING, June 1. /TASS/. China and Russia should strengthen cooperation not only in traditional areas, but also develop new ones, in particular, cooperation in the fifth generation (5G) communications, artificial intelligence, green economy and other areas, Li Hui, the Chinese government's special envoy for Eurasian Affairs, said on Wednesday in a video address at the 7th international conference ‘Russia and China: Cooperation in a New Era’.

"In recent years, China and Russia have overcome such difficulties as the consequences of the pandemic and the weak recovery of the world economy. The volume of trade between the two countries is reaching new heights. Both sides should continue to exploit the potential of such cooperation," he said.

"We need to deepen the core areas of cooperation in economy, trade, energy, science, technology, aerospace and agriculture, and we also need to strengthen new areas such as 5G, artificial intelligence, big data, biomedicine, green and low-carbon economy," Li Hui continued.

He also pointed out that "the stable economic development of China and Russia and the expansion of cooperation will support the stability of global production and supply chains and will certainly contribute to the development of the global economy.".
