YEREVAN, April 10. /TASS/. Armenia's National Security Service said Armenian and Azerbaijani border guards exchanged fire in the Nerkin Khndzoresk area of the Syunik province, leaving one Azerbaijani soldier wounded.
According to a statement from the agency, the incident occurred when an Armenian shepherd, while searching for a lost herd, crossed into Azerbaijan, prompting border guards from both sides to open fire.
"One person on the Azerbaijani side was wounded as a result of the incident. The Border Troops of the Armenian National Security Service are ready for a joint investigation with the Border Troops of Azerbaijan. Regardless of any joint investigation, the Border Troops of Armenia are conducting their own investigation, and will report on its outcome additionally. The question of why and how the shepherd and the herd crossed the border is also to be clarified," the Armenian National Security Service said.
The agency also stated that "such incidents are undesirable for the Armenian side." According to the statement, Azerbaijan returned the herd and the shepherd to Armenia.
