MOSCOW, September 1. /TASS/. Serious reforms should be carried out at the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) as the organization lacks transparency, Alexander Zhukov, President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) said on Thursday.

"WADA needs serious reforms," Zhukov stated. "There are many complaints against the organization, its activity isn’t transparent. It’s very clear that there should be an absolute balance of representatives in the leadership," he added.

"This issue will be discussed in detail at the meeting of the Olympic Summit in October and then a special congress of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) may be held on reforming WADA," Zhukov said.

Earlier this week, representatives of anti-doping agencies from 17 countries discussed proposals on reforming WADA at a Copenhagen summit. A proposal was put forward to make WADA more independent so that the agency’s leadership would not have any posts in other sports organizations simultaneously.

WADA was established in November 1999 in Lausanne, Switzerland, and its mission is to "lead a collaborative worldwide movement for doping-free sport." WADA President Craig Reedie is also Vice President of the International Olympic Committee.
