Russia vows to continue to send aid to Cuba through UN World Food Programme

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov emphasized that the humanitarian consequences of Cuba’s blockade go beyond politics

MOSCOW, October 24. /TASS/. Russia will continue its support to Cuba through the United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP) despite the logistical difficulties, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov told Izvestia.

"There were delays in delivering aid to Cuba through the United Nations World Food Programme, but Russia has fulfilled its humanitarian duty to the people who are our friends. Since June, two shipments of sunflower oil with a total volume of just over 750 tons have been delivered to the island. We will definitely continue to support Havana through the UN WFP," the deputy minister noted.

Alimov also said that the humanitarian consequences of Cuba’s blockade go beyond politics. According to him, the US energy embargo remains an illegal and cynical practice that harms ordinary people.
