MOSCOW, September 23. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and President of the 81th Session of the UN General Assembly Khalilur Rahman, who met on the sidelines of the High-Level Week in New York, agreed that the Assembly remains the key platform for dialogue between states.

"A detailed discussion about issues on the session’s agenda took place. It was emphasized that the UN General Assembly remains the central and most representative platform for interstate contacts. In this context, the sides emphasized the need to improve the political climate and restore a mutually respectful dialogue within the framework of this body," the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement.

The ministry said that Lavrov wished Khalilur Rahman success on his responsible international post.

"Hope was expressed that during the current session, the UN General Assembly’s work will be structured in a professional and depoliticized fashion in order to tackle global threats collectively," it added.
