Putin instructs Cabinet to support development of domestic cloud technologies in Russia

The Russian leader pointed out that, in general, Russia should promote the development of its own sovereign cloud technologies - various platforms and services that allow companies, authorities and citizens to use resources via the Internet, work in applications, store information, and perform calculations

MOSCOW, November 24. /TASS/. President Vladimir Putin instructed the government to support the development of cloud technologies in Russia. He was speaking at the AI Journey conference on Thursday.

"In order to build data management and end-to-end digitalization of business processes, <...> it is also important to ensure the operation of the cloud infrastructure, a company must have software, hardware tools and computing power. I ask the government to provide support for the development of these areas, including defining special mechanisms as part of the implementation of the federal project on artificial intelligence," Putin said.

He added that, in general, Russia should promote the development of its own sovereign cloud technologies - various platforms and services that allow companies, authorities and citizens to use resources via the Internet, work in applications, store information, and perform calculations. Putin urged to build such mechanisms to work and store data on the domestic cloud platform.

"We need to make it much more reliable and safer than keeping information and paperwork in your own computer or on paper," he said.

The head of state specified that he was talking about both technological and regulatory solutions. He instructed the government, together with the professional community, to deal with these issues substantively.
