EU will not be able to fully substitute Russian gas — Engie CEO

About 40% of gas consumed by the EU is from Russia, Catherine MacGregor noted

PARIS, March 6. /TASS/. The European Union will not be able to completely substitute natural gas from Russia, CEO of France’s Engie Catherine MacGregor said in the interview posted on the website of Les Echos.

"Resources available with us now are limited. They are not sufficient to substitute entirely gas we are receiving now from Russia," the top manager said.

About 40% of gas consumed by the EU is from Russia, she noted. "The dependence is 100% in certain East European countries. Termination of supplies would have grave and very quick consequences," the CEO said.

Russian gas supplies to Europe are normal, MacGregor said. "Gazprom honors its contractual commitments as they always did," she added.
