MOSCOW, August 25. /TASS/. The operational-tactical missile system Iskander-M boasts remarkable accuracy worthy of a sniper, for its missile is capable of hitting a target the size of a window leaf from a distance of tens of kilometers, Rostec corporation said on Thursday, while commenting on Iskander missile strikes on military targets in Ukraine.
"The Iskander-M works with a sniper’s accuracy. A missile launched with this operational-tactical complex can hit a window leaf from a distance of several tens of kilometers. It carries a high-yield warhead, which is enough to destroy a building, a warship or on-land fortification," the corporation’s press service said.
Earlier on Thursday, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Lieutenant-General Igor Konashenkov said an Iskander missile had hit a Ukrainian military train in the Dnepropetrovsk region, which eliminated more than 200 reservists and dozens of pieces of military equipment on the way to Donbass.
The Iskander-M is a Russian operational-tactical missile system, designed to destroy enemy air defense and missile defense systems, as well as the most important facilities they protect at a maximum range of up to 500 kilometers. The system is equipped with two main types of missiles: the quasi-ballistic 9M723 missile with electronic warfare modules and remains controllable along the entire flight path and the cruise missile R-500, capable of flying terrain-following profiles.
In Russia, the Iskander-M has been in service since 2014. The complete re-armament of Russia’s missile and artillery forces with this complex was completed at the end of 2019.
