China urges US to halt claims against Russia, China over space threat — Foreign Ministry

Spokeswoman Mao Ning noted that Beijing has no intention of entering a space race with anyone and does not seek supremacy in space

BEIJING, May 22. /TASS/. Beijing urged Washington to stop making irresponsible accusations against Russia and China about the alleged threat to the US in space, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Mao Ning stated at a briefing.

"China has always insisted on the peaceful use of outer space, opposed the weaponization of and arms race in space," the spokeswoman said, commenting on another statement by US authorities that technologies spearheaded by Chinese and Russian forces represent the "greatest threat" in space defense for the US. "We insist that the US side stop irresponsible rhetoric, military expansion and preparations for war in outer space, and actually maintain lasting peace and security there."

As Mao noted, Beijing has no intention of entering a space race with anyone and does not seek supremacy in space. "The United States has openly designated outer space as a battle zone," she said. "The US continues to build up its space forces, form a military alliance in outer space and contribute to its weaponization, posing a serious threat to universal development and security interests."

Earlier, Chief of Space Operations of the US Space Force General Chance Saltzman said that Russia and China allegedly possess weapons that threaten the US in space.
