HAVANA, April 6. /TASS/. Nicaragua has decided to sever diplomatic relations with Ecuador after that country’s police raided the Mexican Embassy in Quito to arrest former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas who was taking shelter there.
"Given the reprehensible acts committed in Quito by forces that are supposed to protect the order and safety of Ecuadorian citizens and their lives, <...> we declare our sovereign decision to sever all diplomatic relations with the Government of Ecuador, while at the same time we reiterate our <... > respect to the beloved Ecuadorian people who are living in times of unthinkable cruelty, and reaffirm our commitment to international law and conventions that govern civilized relations between countries and governments around the world," the Central American nation’s government said in a statement.
