China, Russia contribute to global strategic stability — Chinese Foreign Minister

The relations maintained between China and Russia are developing steadily, Wang Yi said

BEIJING, February 17. /TASS/. China and Russia are working together to maintain strategic stability in the Asia-Pacific region and throughout the world, according to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

"The relations maintained between China and Russia are developing steadily, <...> they take into account the interests of both countries and contribute to maintaining strategic stability in the Asia-Pacific region and throughout the world," he emphasized during the Munich Security Conference.

As Wang Yi clarified, cooperation between Beijing and Moscow does not constitute an alliance and is not aimed against third parties. According to him, Chinese-Russian relations should be considered "a model of interaction between leading powers."

The Chinese authorities do not intend to remain inactive amid the growing Ukrainian crisis, but will not use it for personal gain, Wang Yi said.

"China did not initiate the Ukrainian crisis and does not participate in it. However, this does not mean that we will sit idly by and watch it from afar. Instead, China continued to facilitate peace negotiations," minister said.

He clarified it is necessary to take into account the concerns of each of the parties to the Ukrainian conflict and stressed the importance of adhering to the provisions of the UN Charter, noting that Beijing intends to actively promote peaceful dialogue.
