DUBAI, November 29. /TASS/. The US has failed to accomplish its goal of creating "a New Middle East" and achieve its political objectives in the region, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said.
"US plans for forming "a New Middle East" have failed: They planned to eliminate Hezbollah, but it’s 10 times stronger now. They failed to devour Iraq and Syria, and they failed to settle the Palestinian dispute to the benefit of the usurper regime (Israel - TASS) using a devious ‘2-state’ solution," he said on X, formerly Twitter.
The Iranian supreme leader said Operation Al-Aqsa Flood led by Hamas was a "historic event" that aime, among other things, to achieve a "de-Americanization" of the region. He said Hamas attacks US policy in the Middle East and expressed hope for the "elimination" of US influence in the region.
Khamenei called on Islamic countries on November 19 to at least temporarily sever relations with Israel amid military operations in the Gaza Strip. On November 1, he said it was necessary to stop oil and food exports to Israel. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made a similar call at a meeting with Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Hissein Brahim Taha on October 18.
The situation in the Middle East sharply escalated following an incursion of Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip into Israel on October 7, accompanied by killings of residents of Israeli settlements near the border and taking hostages, including children, women and elderly people. Hamas has cast the attack as a response to Israeli actions against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Israel has declared a complete siege of the Gaza Strip and started a military operation there. Israel also strikes parts of Lebanon and Syria in retaliation for bombardments originating from these countries. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank.
