Belarus’ KGB registers abrupt intensification of Western intelligence operations

KGB Chairman Ivan Tertel said that the opponents of Belarusian authorities plan further actions on destabilization of the situation in the country amid the events in Ukraine

MINSK, February 22. /TASS/. The State Security Committee (KGB) of Belarus registers an abrupt intensification of all types of intelligence operations carried out by Western intelligence agencies acting against Belarus, KGB Chairman Ivan Tertel said Wednesday.

"The KGB registers an abrupt increase of all types intelligence operations, carried out by intelligence agencies of the collective West against the Republic of Belarus. Its main emphasis is recruitment of people who are in position to obtain classified information, recruitment of security agency employees and state officials," he said, according to BelTA.

The security official said that the opponents of Belarusian authorities plan further actions on destabilization of the situation in the country amid the events in Ukraine.

"Their plans span to 2024-2025. The entire context here is connected to their aspiration to access our bodies of power and control, and to carry out actions, aimed at undermining stability in the country," Tertel said.

In last October, 2022, the State Secretary of the Belarusian Security Council Alexander Wolfovich said that an increase of "activity of destructive forces on rocking the situation in the republic" was to be expected soon. He noted that this activity is expected to reach its climax during the 2024-2025 electoral campaigns. According to the State Secretary, anti-Belarusian Centers will try to organize mass riots that will escalate into an armed standoff with the state.
