Leonid Kravchuk died on Tuesday after a long disease

KIEV, May 10. /TASS/. Ukraine’s first president Leonid Kravchuk died on Tuesday after a long disease, the Ukrainian News Agency reported, citing a source in the politician’s family.

On January 10, Kravchuk turned 88.

In late June 2021, the ex-president underwent heart surgery, after which the politician was in a coma. Later Kravchuk underwent rehabilitation in a Munich clinic. In May 2017, Kravchuk had vascular stenting.

Since July 28, 2020 Kravchuk led Ukrainian delegation to the Contact Group for settling the crisis in eastern Ukraine. Kravchuk served as Ukraine’s president in 1991-1994.

On May 4, the first leader of Belarus, as an independent state, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Belarus from 1991 to 1994 Stanislav Shushkevich passed away in Minsk aged 87.
