WASHINGTON, April 22. /TASS/. The US government expects Ukrainian refugees who fled to the United States to return to their homeland as soon as possible, US Department of State Spokesperson Ned Price has told reporters.
According to the official, about 100,000 people are expected to make use of his country’s new refugee program.
"Our goal is to see to it that this conflict is put to an end as quickly as possible, and that Ukrainians and others who have been forced to flee Ukraine are able to return to a secure, stable, peaceful, democratic Ukraine just as soon as possible," Price said.
Earlier, the US Department of Homeland Security announced a new program, allowing Ukrainian refugees to stay in the United States for up to two years, provided, among other things, that a US citizen, a non-governmental organization or a company is ready to provide them financial support. The new rules will be in place since April 25.
US President Joe Biden said earlier this week that the new program is aimed at speeding up the arrival of Ukrainian refuges to the United States.
