MOSCOW, February 5. /TASS/. Russia and the EU view the US’s illegitimate unilateral sanctions against Cuba negatively, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during the press conference in the wake of his talks EU High Representative on Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell Friday.

"The Cuba’s example very well illustrates the harmfulness of unilateral sanctions and the need for their review," he noted. "Our approach is absolutely similar to that of the EU’s. All issues with any international partner must be resolved only via dialogue, while forceful pressure, ultimatums, sanctions and punishment of everyone who wants to develop normal relations with extraterritorial restrictions - all this are tools of the colonial past."

In turn, Borrell reminded that the EU expressed its regret over former US President Donald Trump’s decision to include Cuba in the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.

"We regret this decision very much and we hope that the new [US] administration will restore the situation by cancelling Trump’s decision, which causes major difficulties to the people of Cuba and EU’s trade and economic relations with Cuba," he underscored.
