ST. PETERSBURG, April 7. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday he loved patriotic films made under classical motives.
"As for my personal preferences, I love good movies: we have a great lot of films devoted to our heroes of the Great Patriotic War [the Soviet Union fought against Nazi Germany in 1941-1945], old Soviet movies. Classics are also broadly represented," Putin said at a plenary session of the media forum held by the All-Russian Popular Front political movement.
Specifically, the head of the Russian state called as a masterpiece the film War and Peace made by the famous Soviet film director Sergei Bondarchuk.
As Putin said, foreign producers also turn to classical Russian motives. He specifically mentioned the War and Peace television serial produced in the UK.
"I also watched it and I liked it," the Russian president said.

‘It seems to me that they were able after all to capture the Russian soul, the epoch and the depth of Tolstoy’s thought," Putin said.
Speaking about his cinema preferences, Putin mentioned the films by Stanislav Govorukhin who also participated in the media forum on Thursday.
"These films can be watched an endless number of times," the Russian leader said.
According to Putin, "good intentions as the prevailing theme and love, love in the broadest meaning of the word, are the main thing in art in general and in the art of cinema."
Putin also said that problems existed in Russia with the promotion of domestic films. He urged to restore a chain of movie theaters in the country.
