Court fines Google $43,585 for publishing fake content about special operation

The company faced a maximum fine of $65,249

MOSCOW, December 8. /TASS/. Moscow’s Magistrates Court has fined Google 4,000,000 rubles ($43,585) for publishing videos on Youtube, which contained false facts about the special military operation, a court representative told TASS.

"The court founds the Google company guilty under Article 19.7.10-4 of the Code of the Russian Federation on Administrative Offenses (failure by the owner of a social network to comply with an order of the federal executive body exercising control and supervision functions in the media sector) and imposed a penalty of a fine of 4 million rubles," the official said.

The company faced a maximum fine of 6 million rubles ($65,249).

According to the case files, the Russian media watchdog employees discovered videos on YouTube containing information about Russian military personnel killed on the territory of Ukraine during the special operation. This information was not true. The regulator sent an order to Google, which owns YouTube, to remove these videos, but this was not done. Then a protocol was drawn up against the company for failure to comply with the watchdog requirements.

Google is regularly fined for publishing inaccurate information about the special military operation. On August 17, the company was fined 3 million rubles ($32,601) for failing to delete false information about an operation in Ukraine, and in May - 3 million rubles for the same offense.
