Russia to spend $9.7 bln on ‘Science’ national project

A total of $3.3 bln will be spent on financing the federal project for developing scientific, research and production cooperation

MOSCOW, February 11. /TASS/. The volume of financing for Russia’s national project ‘Science’ equals 636 billion rubles ($9.7 billion), including 404.8 billion rubles ($6.2 billion) in federal budget funds, according to the materials on the national projects posted on the government’s website on Monday.

Over 231.2 billion rubles ($3.5 billion) will be spent on the national project ‘Science’ using extra-budgetary funds, the government’s materials say.

A total of 215 billion rubles ($3.3 billion) will be spent on financing the federal project for developing scientific, research and production cooperation, which makes part of the national project ‘Science.’ Russia will also earmark 350 billion rubles ($5.3 billion) for the federal project of developing advanced infrastructure for R&D work and 70.9 billion rubles ($1.1 billion) for the federal project of developing the human resources potential in the sphere of research and developments.

National project ‘Science’

The national project ‘Science’ has been developed in accordance with the May decree by Russian President Vladimir Putin and is set to be implemented from October 2018 to 2024 (inclusive).

Pursuant to the national project’s goals, in 2024 Russia should enter the world’s top five countries conducting scientific research and developments in the spheres defined by the priorities of scientific and technological development.

The national project ‘Science’ consists of three federal projects: ‘Development of Scientific, Research and Production Cooperation,’ ‘Development of the Advanced Infrastructure for Conducting Research and Developments in the Russian Federation’ and "Development of the Human Resources Potential in the Sphere of Research and Developments.’

The national project ‘Science’ is supervised by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova.
